Route One Highways & The Major Midlands Junction Improvement

5 April 2017

Route One Highways were employed in 2014 by Skanska to complete the Waterproofing and Expansion Joint works to the £191 million new interchange.

The remodelling of Catthorpe Interchange has revolutionised the journeys made by more than 150,000 vehicles daily.

The project saw Route One’s presence on various structures spanning almost two years. This included installing Stirling Lloyd’s Eliminator bridge deck waterproofing system, a product that provides complete protection from corrosive effects of water.  Route one also installed Stirling Lloyd’s Buried Joint which completes the waterproofing application.

This project has improved access to the A14 corridor and dramatically removed queuing traffic on the M1, M6 and A14 approaches.

Highways England Chairman, Colin Matthews said “I know it has been talked about for many years and it’s easy to see benefits of smoother and more reliable journeys on these key routes. The improvement means journeys will be shorter and safer with more vehicles able to pass through and less congestion. This project has been delivered on time and on budget and is a great achievement for our own team and our contractors. “
