Route One Infrastructure were locally sourced by JMS Lincoln to supply and install the Bridgemaster on the A161 South Dock Bridge in Goole.

Route One operatives installed Stirling Lloyd’s Bridgemaster System – a 3 in 1 combined waterproofing, wearing course and high friction surfacing – to the South Dock Bridge in Goole.

Using Stirling Lloyd’s advanced resin technology, Bridgemaster is a fast curing, flexible resin screed combined with an aggregate over scatter and sealer coat. The system is a flexible, durable and economical solution that protects bridge decks and requires minimal maintenance.

The works were carried out under a full road closure which, along with the appropriate weather conditions, allowed us to be more efficient and complete the works to the agreed programme of two days.

Prior to our works commencing, JMS Lincoln carried out the preparation of the deck ready for the application of the materials. The surface was prepared to a SA2.5 finish, removing any rust, dirt, scale and other contaminants and exposing the steel. Before the blast cleaning was able to take place, the surface was thoroughly degreased.

On day 1 of Route One’s works, the 246m² bridge deck was primed using Zed s94 primer. This is a single component, anti-corrosive metal primer that protects the steel work from corrosion and enhances the bond between the Bridgemaster system and the deck. This process was then followed by the application of 123m² of the Bridgemaster system.

On day 2, the remaining 123m² of Bridgemaster was applied, followed by the application of the Matt Sealer to the entire deck (a fast curing, hard wearing sealer). The purpose of the sealer is to enhance the aggregate retention to extend the performance of the surfacing and helps to maintain a clean surface. The cure time for this product is under an hour, after which the system can be trafficked.

A 6mm thick system was chosen with 1-3mm Guyanan Bauxite Grey aggregate to provide a robust and durable finish.
