Currently celebrating its 10th Anniversary, Route One Highways have been awarded the £0.5 million bridge expansion joints and waterproofing package on the M6 for the Carillion Kier joint venture (CKJV).
The 20 mile stretch of the M6 between junction 16 (Crewe) and junction 19 (Knutsford) is being transformed into an “All Lane Running” Smart Motorway and is set for completion in March 2018.
The scheme aims to reduce congestion and smooth the flow of traffic, support the economy and facilitate economic growth while maintaining a high level of safety performance and minimising the environmental impacts.
Route One’s works started in late October 2016 with the sealing of the expansion joints to the existing over bridges.
The waterproofing works are now underway and the bridge joint replacement works in the central areas will follow, before the traffic switch facilitates the work required to the former hard shoulder.
The scheme also includes works to over bridges along the 20 mile section.
Darryl Taylor, Route One Commercial Manager says: “This is a significant contract win for Route One and strengthens our relationship with both Carillion and Kier. Route One worked closely with the JV and the surfacing sub-contractor for some time to agree the programme of works.”
