Route One Infrastructure Ltd is delighted to have been involved in the Bromley Heath Viaduct scheme which has recently been awarded the Institute of Highway Engineers (South West Branch) Large Project of the Year 2018.
Bromley Heath Viaduct was originally constructed as a single carriageway road over the River Frome in 1966 but was extended to a dual carriageway in 1988. Today, the viaduct carries approximately 55,000 vehicles and 500 cyclists a day and without the major strengthening and improvement works, it could have resulted in this busy route being closed to all traffic.
The expansion joints on the viaduct were failing and leaking water onto the abutments causing some corrosion and cracking concrete therefore these required replacing and the deck re-waterproofed.
Route One were contracted by Farrans Construction to install the bridge deck waterproofing and expansion joints to the Bromley Heath Viaduct in Bristol. The project was a major success and despite numerous challenges, it was completed and opened in accordance with the programme completion date.
Route One is extremely proud to have been involved in this scheme and would like to extend our congratulations to all who were involved.
